diwali 2025 in various countries in 250 words

Diwali 2025, the Festival of Lights, is celebrated worldwide with unique customs reflecting regional cultures and the Indian diaspora’s influence. In India, Diwali’s main day falls on October 20, 2025, with festivities spanning five days starting from Dhanteras, marked by lighting diyas (oil lamps), Rangoli decorations, prayers to Goddess Lakshmi, and family gatherings. Different regions in India have their distinct traditions, such as Kali Puja in West Bengal and burning effigies of Narakasura in Goa.

Internationally, Diwali is recognized and celebrated with enthusiasm, especially in countries with significant Indian populations. In Nepal, Diwali is known as Tihar and involves honoring animals and the deity Lakshmi, with extensive lighting and cultural performances. Sri Lanka observes Deepavali as a national holiday with prayers, kolam art, and temple visits.

Mauritius and Guyana celebrate Diwali with home decorations, prayers, and community events, reflecting a deep Indian heritage. In Trinidad and Tobago and Suriname, the festival features music, food, and cultural gatherings, emphasizing family connection and diversity.

Malaysia and Singapore recognize Diwali as a public holiday, where homes and streets glow with lamps and cultural programs abound. In the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, Indian diaspora communities hold Lakshmi pujas, cultural shows, and festive meals, maintaining tradition far from the homeland. Diwali thus shines as a global festival symbolizing the victory of light over darkness and good over evil, celebrated across continents with warmth and devotion.
