BJP Alleges Kejriwal’s Income Rose by 40% During Covid; Sisodia Took ₹1.5 Crore Private Loan

Delhi BJP Chief accuses AAP leader Manish Sisodia of taking a ₹1.5 crore loan from three private individuals for his son’s studies.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Delhi Chief Virendra Sachdeva on Saturday raised serious allegations against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, claiming that his income surged by 40% during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020-21. Sachdeva, speaking at a press conference, demanded an explanation from Kejriwal regarding the unexpected increase in his income during a time of economic hardship for many. He questioned, “In 2020-21, during the Covid period, Kejriwal’s income increased by 40 per cent. This question still remains unresolved. Kejriwal, who always gives his opinion on every issue, becomes mute on this matter. Since the Delhi elections are here, he must answer where the money came from.”

Further, Sachdeva turned his attention to another prominent AAP leader, Manish Sisodia, accusing him of taking a loan of ₹1.5 crore from three private individuals to finance his son’s education. This claim has raised eyebrows, and the Delhi BJP Chief is urging both Kejriwal and Sisodia to clarify these allegations, especially with the upcoming elections in mind.

The BJP’s accusations against the AAP leaders seem to be part of a broader political strategy to challenge the ruling party’s credibility ahead of the Delhi elections. Both Kejriwal and Sisodia have remained silent on these charges, prompting more calls for transparency and accountability from the opposition.

BJP Delhi Chief Virendra Sachdeva, continuing his allegations against AAP leader Manish Sisodia, questioned the source of the loan that the latter reportedly took for his son’s education. He stated, “We all take loans in different ways to educate our children, and so does Manish Sisodia. There is a loan of 1.5 crore rupees, but when we look into the details, we find that the loan was not given by a bank, but by personal friends. This loan came after the liquor policy was implemented.”

Sachdeva further linked the loan to the alleged corruption in the Delhi liquor policy, citing the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report, which claims that ₹2,026 crore was misappropriated in the liquor scam. He claimed that one of the individuals involved in the loan, Umesh Chand Mittal, provided ₹86 lakh without charging any interest. Other individuals mentioned in the loan were said to have contributed amounts of ₹9-10 lakh and ₹58 lakh, respectively, including a person named Gunit Arora.

The BJP leader emphasized the timing of the loan, asserting that it came after the controversial liquor policy was enacted, suggesting a connection between the policy and the financial dealings. Sachdeva demanded transparency from Sisodia and an explanation of how the loans were granted, particularly without the usual financial checks, and how they might relate to the alleged misappropriation of public funds in the liquor scam.

BJP Delhi Chief Virendra Sachdeva raised serious concerns over the loan taken by AAP leader Manish Sisodia, stating that the matter warrants a thorough investigation. “This is a matter for investigation, and we will speak to the relevant departments. Sisodia must answer where this money came from. To this day, the source of the Sheesh Mahal has not been revealed,” he emphasized, calling for accountability and transparency.

In addition, BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj also criticized Sisodia, urging him to clarify the origins of the loan. “You have held a constitutional post and served as Delhi’s Deputy CM, so you are accountable to the public. I would like to ask Sisodia Ji who these three individuals are from whom you took ₹1.5 crore. I want to know if you took this money when you were about to implement the liquor policy. I also want to ask if this loan is genuine,” Swaraj said, demanding that Sisodia provide clear answers regarding the suspicious timing and the credibility of the loan.

The Delhi assembly elections will take place in a single phase on February 5, with the results scheduled to be announced on February 8. Candidates have until January 20 to withdraw their nominations. In the 2020 assembly elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won a resounding victory, securing 62 out of the 70 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) managed to win only eight seats.
